Ayi Bahtiar was born on October 29, 1970 in Ciamis, Indonesia. He studied physics at Universitas Padjadjaran Bandung in 1989 and graduated in 1994. His skripsi work focused on prediction of void fraction in nuclear reactor moderator of TRIGA MARK Bandung. In 1997 he finished his master study in physics at Institute of Technology Bandung. His final project was fabrication of delta-doped a-Si solar cells using plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) under supervision of Toto Winata, PhD. In 2000, he received DAAD scholarship to continue his study in physics at Fachbereich Physik der Johannes Guttenberg Universitaet Mainz and Max-Planck Institute for Polymer Research (MPIP), Germany. He obtained PhD in 2004 with magna cum laude (1.0). His PhD work is Optical Planar Waveguide of Conjugated Polymers for All-Optical Switching Application, under supervision of Prof. Dr. Christoph Bubeck and Prof. Dr. Ernst W. Otten. He returned to MPIP in 2006 for studying mono- and multilayer organic films using Langmuir-Blodgett technique. His current is research is simulation and fabrication of high efficiency polymer solar cells for cheap electric energy sources.
